Conpak Shares Practical Experience in Digital and AI Transformation in HKICPA's A Plus Magazine
In the latest issue (Issue 2, 2026) of A Plus magazine published by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), featuring the special topic "Digital transformation: How firms can get it right", Conpak shares its digital transformation journey spanning over a decade and its cutting edge practices, offering the industry a reference worthy pathway for digital transformation.
In house OCR System Development and Paperless Working Environment
While most accounting firms were still handling tax returns on paper, Conpak had already begun developing its own Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system in-house, significantly improving data entry efficiency. Ms Yim Kwan-yin Hazel, Director of Conpak and a practising member of HKICPA, said that Conpak initiated its digital transformation over ten years ago, and achieved a fully paperless office by migrating document management, approval workflows, and client communications to an integrated management system.
Confronting Challenges: Balancing Optimisation and Flexibility
Despite being at the forefront of the industry, Conpak remains vigilant about the ongoing challenges posed by rapid technological iteration. Ms Yim noted: "The biggest challenge is balancing optimisation with future readiness, ensuring our optimised processes remain flexible enough to support new technologies." She added, "A solution that was cutting-edge six months ago can quickly become outdated, superseded by another technology that does the same job better and faster. This constant flux makes it difficult to know when to commit, when to wait, and how to avoid investing in tools with a short shelf life."
Conpak's response has been to transform digital transformation from a "one off project" into a "routine operational mechanism". Conpak holds weekly IT meetings, bringing together the IT team and all functional department heads to review emerging technologies, resolve existing pain points, and refine systems in real time. Ms Yim emphasised: " By embedding continuous improvement into everyday workflows rather than treating it as a one-time transformation, we stay future-ready without chasing every trend."
