What are International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and International Standard-Serial Number (ISSN) respectively?
A:
ISBN and ISSN are the only identity codes established for information control, exchange, and retrieval of various media publications (newspapers, periodicals, journals and books). ISBN refers to International Standard Book Number of publications without a fixed schedule and ISSN refers to International Standard Serial Number of periodical publications.

What is the difference between ISBN and ISSN?
A:
ISBN applies to books, brochures, microfilm reproductions, educative TV or films, mixed media publications, computer software, maps, and e-publications. ISSN applies to newspapers and magazines.
Q:
What information needs to be submitted in order to apply for ISBN?
A:
Information to be submitted is as follows:
  • Copy of Business Registration Certificate of registered Hong Kong publisher and copy of ID card or passport of the applicant
  • Valid Hong Kong address
  • 5-7 books published shall be filed and registered with relevant governmental department
It will take about 7 workdays to apply for ISBN.
Q:
What information needs to be submitted in order to apply for ISSN?
A:
Information to be submitted is as follows:
  • Copies of Business Registration Certificate and Certificate of Incorporation of the company
  • Cover, back cover and index page of the publication to be printed
  • 3-4 books published shall be filed with relevant governmental department
It will take about 14 workdays to apply for ISSN
Q:
In which manner the monthly publication shall be published if the contents of the said monthly publication are mainly advertisement?
A:
If the monthly publication is distributed free by the publisher, it is only necessary to apply for ISSN. The requirement of application for ISSN is to incorporate a Hong Kong company, and the application shall be made in the name of the said Hong Kong company.
Q:
Is it just to apply for ISSN when publishing free fashion magazines? 
A:
The fashion magazine can be operated but not sold in China after successful application of ISSN. It can only be given free by the publisher. To apply for ISSN, it is necessary to provide the Certificate of Incorporation, Business Registration Certificate, title of publication, cover, back cover and index, copyright page.

Who can make inquiries about the exit-entry records and where to submit the inquiry application?
A:
Chinese citizens (including residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) may apply in writing to any frontier inspection station or exit-entry administration department of public security organ at or above the prefecture (municipal) level for access to their exit-entry information by presenting their valid exit-entry documents or resident identity cards.

What information is included in the exit-entry records?
A:
Exit-entry records refer to the information obtained by frontier inspection bodies during the process of performing their duties in accordance with the law on the exit and entry personnel from open ports throughout the country, including name, gender, date of birth, certificate name, certificate number, exit-entry time, exit-entry ports, means of transportation, etc.

What do valid exit-entry documents refer to?
A:
Exit-Entry Permit for Traveling to and from Hong Kong and Macao, Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Return Permit).

A:
Up to recent 5 years.

Can someone else be entrusted to make inquiries on behalf of the applicant?
A:
Under special circumstances, if a citizen is unable to make inquiries in person about his exit-entry records, he may entrust another person to make inquiries on his behalf. (Conpak can act as the trustee.)
Q:
What materials are required when another person is entrusted to make inquiries on behalf of the applicant?
A:
Completed "application form for inquiries on exit-entry records", applicant's original exit-entry document or identity card, trustee’s original identity card and original letter of authorization signed by both the applicant and the trustee.
